CLICK, ROKKK, HIDE & SEEK - None of these horror/thriller films have worked at the box office this year. SHAAPIT did manage some face saving collections but all in all, there haven't been many takers when it comes to chills and thrills on screen. However, Milind Gadagkar, director of PHOONK 2, is unfazed with any trend in general and insists that at the end of it all, it's a film in totality that works, not the genre which it belongs to.
"I personally believe that at any given time of now, a particular film has to work irrespective of what genre it belongs to", reasons Milind who would be making his directorial debut with the film, "Whether it is a romantic comedy or a horror or a drama, it is the film which is good or bad in entirety and hence it works or fails."
Stating an example, Milind elaborates, "Lot of people feel that BHOOT worked because it was the one of the first major horror films to come in those times. However, the fact is that it was accepted because it was good; it had nothing to do with the genre. In case of PHOONK 2, I am confident because I believe that I have made a good film and hence will find its own way and audience."
He also believes that a lot also depends upon how a film takes shape from conceptualization to execution. "Look at KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI. When someone tells you that at the core of it all, it is about a mother leaving letters for her daughter, you will find it so strange. However, when you see it in a film, it is all so beautiful. This episode worked in the film because it was executed so well. Similarly you can have a horror genre but it depends upon how to project it on screen. If you do it well, the game is set."
