'Peepli Live' retrieve cost of film before release


Amir Khan’s ‘Peepli Live’ which will may be the first non-commercial Hindi movie to hit all over 600 screens.  This movie has already retrieved its investment by dealing its satellite rights for Rs. 100 million before release. ‘Peepli Live’ releases on 13 August, Friday. Film director Anusha Rizvi’s debut is on the Farmers suicides and the media reaction and the subsequent political, made on approximately Rs.100 million of budget (includes marketing costs.).

In India it will hit 600 screens and 100 in overseas markets, except Britain.

Amir Khan’s Production’s source said, “In Britain we’ve collaborator with Artificial Eye, a premium distribution chain that seems into art house main stream release and the largest art house of exhibition chain called Curzon theaters. We’ll release this film in Britian on 24th September.”

The cast of this film is a mixed – There are many actors are Bhadwai village’s tribals in Madhya Pradesh, Other cast actors are from late playwright Naya Theatre of Habib Tanvir’s theatre troupe and last but not the list main actor of this film Omkar Das Manikpuri, who plays role of Natha in ‘Peepli Live.’

In the film other stars are Naseeruddin Shah, Yugal Kishore, Sitaram Panchal, Aamir Bashir, Vishal O.Sharma, Farrukh Jaffer, Shalini Vasta, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Malaika Shenoy.

This movie is the fourth from Amir Khan Production Ltd. After Lagaan in 2001, Tare Zameen Par in 2007, Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane  Na in 2008.

Amir’s three commercial movies were blockbusters, and ‘Peepli Live’ has already earned a reputation in the global movie circuit. Recently this movie won the Best First Feature Film award at South Africa in 31st Durban International Film Festival.

This movie also had been part as the first movie from India to in Sundance Film Festival to do so. This film was selected by Rapid Eye Movies, German Distribution Company, for special screening at Berlin International Film Festival. It recently had premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

This movie has also focus on over 1000 villages in India who are called Peepli.MMIF 2010.
